What Happened?

On the night of August 13–14, 2025, Himachal Pradesh was struck by a series of cloudbursts and flash floods, causing massive destruction in Kullu, Shimla, Lahaul‑Spiti, and Mandi districts. Over 325 roads (including major national highways) were shut, bridges collapsed, markets evacuated, and dozens of villages (such as Koot, Kyav, Karpat, and Changut) were cut off from basic supplies. Swift rescue operations by the Indian Army, local administration, and volunteers have helped save lives, but the loss of property, infrastructure, and livelihoods is immense.

Statistics & Impact

• 184 people lost their lives in Himachal Pradesh this monsoon season (June 20–August 4, 2025) due to rains, flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides.
• 309 roads were blocked and connectivity in many regions destroyed.
• Over ₹1,700 crore in damage to houses, public property, power supply, and agriculture.
• Thousands stranded or evacuated; homes, shops, and fields swept away.
• Continuous heavy rainfall warnings and red alerts remain; many rural communities are still unreachable.
